Justina La Cour

Justina Maria la Cour, born in Odense, Denmark. She was raised in a small danish town called Nyborg (Fyn Island) by the sea. Home and heritage is very important to Justina, therefore she often comes back and performs there to honor her roots. Justina started her musical education at 4 years old, first with the piano under the guidance of her mother and then later on she continued her education with the violin at the age of 6, inspired by her neighbor, who was a violinist at the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra. At the age of 7 Justina moved to Vilnius, Lithuania, where she was admitted to a special talent school: The M. K. Čiurlionis School of Arts, where she studied with among others, Prof. Rusnė Matatytė. At the age of 14 she met with Prof. Alexandre Zapolski in Copenhagen and continued with his guidance until she was 20 years old and moved to Switzerland. Justina took her Bachelor’s degree at the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne under the French Soloist Virginie Robilliard. She Continued there after her Master’s under Prof. Tatiana Samouil at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles in Belgium and in the class of Janine Jansen/Tomo Keller back in Switzerland, (HEMU Valais-Wallis). Justina has won numerous international prizes such as: 1st prizes at the International Augusts Dombrovskis Competition in Riga, Latvia and the International Saulius Sondeckis Competition in Siauliai, Lithuania (2013) 3rd prize at the “Rising Stars Music Competition” 2017 Berlin, Germany, 2nd prize at the “Golden Classical Music Awards” Weill Recital Hall, New York, USA 2018, 1st prize as well as jury’s distinction award at the “American Protégée Concerto Competition” New York, USA 2017, 1st prize at the “Grand Prize Virtuoso Competition” Rome, Italy 2018, Prix Rotary Lausanne-Lemain, Switzerland 2018, Special Prize at the 7th International Competition “Triomphe de l’Art”, Brussels 2021, 2nd prize at the “Beethoven Young Musician Competition” Vienna 2022; 3rd prize at the “Medici Competition” UK 2022, 1st prize at the “Grand Prize Virtuoso Competition” Paris, where Justina made her debut at the Paris Philharmonic (Cité de la Musique) in December 2022. Absolute 1st prize at the “International Fanny Mendelssohn Competition” 2023, 1st prize at the Jean Sibelius Fest Competition 2023 in Turku, Finland, 1st prizes at the 2025 Grand Prize Virtuoso Competitions Berlin and Vienna, 1st prizes at the Golden Classical Music Awards 2025, Tokyo and New York Justina was named laureate of the prestigious Betty and Valdemar van Hauen Grant 2023 and made her debut in the Tivoli Concert Hall (Copenhagen) with the ARCO orchestra. She has also recently received the Bente Calbergs Grant 2025 and the Carl Nielsen and Anne-Marie Nielsen’s legacy Talent Prize 2025. The violinist actively participates in chamber music events apart from her solo concerts. She is part of the “Arte Amanti” Chamber Music Festival in Belgium, first as Young Talent and now as Rising Star, were she performs regularly. Justina has also participated in the Sion Festival 2022, where she performed together with masters like Janine Jansen, Boris Brovstyn, Pablo&Sara Ferrández, Daniel Blendulf etc. Throughout her career Justina is mostly inspired by her teacher and mentor Janine Jansen, who is regularly guiding Justina even from a distance in the path of finding her unique musical voice and artistic innovation. Janine Jansen has been the young artist’s musical hero since as long as she can remember. Justina is a previous stipendiate of Augustinus Fonden (Denmark) and the Fondation Max D. Jost (Switzerland). She has recently graduated from the Advanced Postgraduate Soloist Program at the Royal Danish Academy of Music where she studied with Prof. Eszter Haffner.
